I named my blog the giant blog because sometimes I refer to myself as a giant. I am almost 6' tall which really isn't that tall but it is taller than most women.
It has been a full and busy day and a half here at summer school. Yesterday at the dinner and plenary, I was amazed to see the diversity in the room! My union, United University Professionals, has 35,000 members but I don't see much diversity at the delegate assemblys that I attend. I asked my union sister and she says my observations are correct; we don't have a lot of diversity in those who are elected as delegates. I guess I really never questioned the lack of diversity since it's common in Albany, NY. I attend the opera, ballet, plays and the symphony and in all the audiences, there is little diversity. I know my union has done a gender study recently, but I now am very curious about diversity....
The time is passing quickly because the days are full. I enjoyed both workshops today; the best part is listening to and meeting my fellow sisters. I chuckled both times ground rules were mentioned. I have yet to ever be part of any meeting where people were disrespectful or rude to each other. Apparently such rules are necessary.
This is really just an intro..I will write something more substantial tomorrow if this blog shows up in the correct spot.
